Training workshop on in situ (on site) conservation of plant genetic resources conducted…

The Eastern Africa Plant Genetic Resources Network (EAPGREN) in collaboration with the Institute of Biodiversity Conservation (IBC) and Association for Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA) condacted a 5 days training workshop on in situ conservation of plant genetic resources starting from 01 October 2007 at the Institute of Biodiversity Conservation, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Trainees from Central and Eastern Africa, i.e. Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda participated in the training workshop. A number of issues on in situ conservation were covered and a field visit was part of the training. In situ and ex situ conservation sites such as Bishan Gari (Forest genetic resources conservation field gene bank), Wondo Genet (Medicinal Plants conservation field gene bank), and Ejere (Community field gene banks) were among the sites visited by the Trainees.
